Brilon is known for its historic old town with half-timbered houses, its idyllic location in the Hochsauerland region, and the Brilon Ridge in the Rothaar Mountains. Additionally, Brilon is popular among tourists for its wide range of outdoor activities, such as varied hiking trails, diverse mountain biking routes, and ski slopes. Brilon is located about 25 kilometers northwest of Winterberg and is not far from Paderborn, Kassel, or Dortmund.

Directions

Brilon is located in the eastern part of the Sauerland region in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The town is surrounded by picturesque low mountain range landscapes and is situated near the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. Brilon is easily accessible via the federal highways B7, B251, and B480, which connect the town with other important cities and regions. The nearest larger cities are Paderborn to the north, Kassel to the east, and Dortmund to the west. 

By car

 

  • From the North: Take the A33 to the Wünnenberg-Haaren interchange, then follow the B480 to Brilon and Olsberg.
  • From the South: Take the A44 to the Marsberg exit, then follow the B7 to Brilon and Olsberg.
  • From the West: Take the A44 to the Werl interchange, then the A46 to Olsberg, and continue on the B7 to Brilon.
  • From the East: Take the A44 to the Marsberg exit, then follow the B7 to Brilon and Olsberg.

Brilon Wald is situated on the Sauerland Express route (RE 17 Hagen-Warburg/Kassel), making it easily accessible from the Ruhr area. The Dortmund-Sauerland Express (RE 57 Dortmund-Brilon) provides regular direct connections to Brilon Stadt.

  • Marburg andKorbach: RB/RE97, at least every 2 hours.
